General Services
Acupuncture Acupuncture has been used in medical treatment for more than 2000 years. Once considered alternative medicine, it is finding its way back into the medical mainstream. The World Health Organization has identified more than forty conditions that may be helped by acupuncture. Dr. Andrew Turkell has studied acupuncture in China and is certified in veterinary acupuncture. |
Bathing | Treat your pet to a luxurious bath and remove dirt, debris and that doggie pet odor. Your pet will feel fresh and revitalized. If scratching is a problem, our medicated baths contain soothing agents that stop the itching. Services also include nail trim and ear cleaning. |
Behavioral Medicine | Illness doesn't always have a physical cause. We help determine the cause of such disorders as separation anxiety and obsessive behavior, and then develop a treatment regimen for the client. We also have relationships with nationally renowned trainers and animal behaviorists. |
Birds, Reptiles, and Small Mammals | Veterinary medicine for exotic pets is growing as the popularity of these animals increase. With better public education in health, nutritional and environmental management, all species have a greater chance for living longer and healthier lives. Dr. Andrew Turkell worked for two years at the Manila Zoo in the Phillipines and continues to care for our exotic patients. |
Blood Transfusions | We maintain a supply of blood for all types of pets in case of emergency. The blood is collected from donor pets that live with their owners, and all blood is carefully screened for disease. |
Boarding | Pets are like our children – we feed and nurture them, and lavish our attention and love on them. Our highly qualified kennel attendants do the same when you can't be there. We provide tender loving care such as brushing and cuddling, and supervised outdoor playtime to keep them happy and active. | View |
Day Care | Is your pet unhappy or lonely while you're at work? Give your companion the personal attention and play time he or she deserves throughout the day. |
Dental Care | Regular professional cleaning is important to your pet's teeth. We use modern and safe ultrasound to clean each tooth thoroughly - above and below the gum line. Dental technicians polish teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface more resistant to plaque buildup. Fluoride treatments help strengthen enamel and reduce tooth sensitivity. Advanced dental care is available, including root canals, caps and braces at a local veterinary dental specialist. |
Emergency and Critical Care | In any emergency, seconds count. Our experienced staff is backed up by our mobile resuscitation unit, stocked and equipped to administer the ABCs of basic life support – Airway, Breathing, Circulation/Cardiac compressions. Emergency care is offered during regular business hours. After hours, we continue to be available via our answering service. Many times, the doctor on call can help with advice over the phone, sometimes he or she may meet you at Island Animal Hospital for emergency care, or you may be directed to one of the local emergency clinics for specialized care. In any case, your pet will receive the appropriate care in the most timely manner. |
Pharmacy | Our fully-stocked pharmacy carries the best veterinary drugs in the animal healthcare field. |
Endoscopy | High-tech fiber optics let us perform direct visual examination and biopsies of your pet’s gastrointestinal system. This allows for more accurate diagnosis and treatment of oral, esophageal, stomach, colon and upper intestinal tract disease. Foreign objects can also be removed without the need for surgery. |
Euthanasia and Hospice | Saying goodbye to a long-time friend is painful. We view the last days of an animal's life as some of the most important, working with owners to provide dignity and comfort to these pets. When the time comes that the quality of life is suffering, we help and counsel in the decision-making progress. Euthanasia is carried out in an unhurried fashion, in a separate comfortable room. We also recognize that our job does not end there. From making final arrangements to lending a sympathetic ear (or shoulder), we help in any way we can to ease the burden. |
House Calls | Our mobile health unit is available for house calls when you are unable to bring your pet to the clinic. |
Immunization and Wellness Care | We strive to prevent illness whenever possible. The time and effort invested in wellness programs has rewards for both pets and owners. Custom-tailored for each pet at each stage of life, our wellness programs include comprehensive physical exams, internal parasite testing, heartworm and flea control, appropriate vaccinations, spay and neuter services; and specialized blood tests. |
Internal Medicine | Our doctors perform a full range of veterinary internal medical services including cardiology, ophthalmology, neurology, dermatology, gastroenterology, oncology, endocrinology and orthopedic surgery. |
Laser Treatments Lasers are a minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgery. We use lasers instead of scalpels in many procedures such as removal of cysts, tumors and warts, and lasers have become the standard of care in declawing. Lasers result in less pain, less bleeding and less swelling. They reduce risk of infection and result in less post-operative discomfort. |
Microchip Identification | Microchips have helped reunite thousands of pets with their families. Our micropchips are the most widely used anywhere, maximizing their effectiveness in a safe recovery. |
Nursing Care | The compassionate care your pet receives while in the hospital is just as important as his or her medicines and treatments. Our staff does whatever it takes to keep your loved ones happy and comfortable. Whether it's a warm blanket, a favorite toy, or just a loving touch, patient comfort is a top priority at Island Animal Hospital. |
Nutrional Counseling | All pets benefit from a balanced diet, but some have more specialized needs. At Island Animal Hospital, individual nutritional counseling geared to his or her specific needs can help keep your pet happy, healthy and active. |
